Cari’s request was a bit of a challenge. But one I jumped straight in to happily.
She wanted me to make her a separates outfit, composed of the Hortensia silk blouse, the Ilex silk bustier and the Tulipa silk cadì skirt.
The challenge was: she wanted the skirt to be dyed a deep, inky, vibrant purple hue. Now this skirt is made with silk cadì, which is a very special fabric. It is a satin weave, so super smooth, with a perfect, pearly surface, but it does not have the sheen. It’s a perfect milky matte texture, where every little mark, halo, stain or crease shows.
Hand dyeing is a tricky process, messy and hard to control. The more flawless the garment to dye, the more tension I experience when doing so!! But I am so happy I took on the challenge, because the result is so vibrant, rich and deep that I am in love!
