Julia’s September wedding in Barolo

I had the great pleasure of getting to work with Julia in person. This sweet American girl came to Italy to study at the Università del Gusto of Pollenzo, in Piemonte, a few years ago. Here, she found love and decided to settle down, and married last September in beautiful Barolo, at the Osteria Arborina.

Hers is another entirely personal-to-her dress design, put together combining and personalising various separates from my collection.  The skirt is the ever-favorite sleek and elegant Tulipa skirt, made of buttery smooth and liquidly draping silk Cadì.

Under the skirt, as base, she wore the Saponaria crepe de chine slip dress, cut with a V-neckline in front and a super deep V-neckline in back.  This was decided in order to create a soft contour in front, and to leave the back open and bare, only delicately caressed by the eyelash edge of her delicate Chantilly lace top.

Small hand-covered silk buttons closed the top in back, and a thin Duchesse satin belt, closed with buttons as well, detailed the waist delicately.

The fine proportion and balance of sweet details and clean minimalism, the careful, obsessive attention to the quality of the materials and the perfection of the cutting and stitching, combined with Julia’s classic, poised natural elegance created an ensemble that is simply poetic.

This is the beauty of custom designing. It’s not just a beautiful dress on a beautiful person. It’s the garment and the person setting off each other’s particular qualities and personality, in a unique harmony that falls in to place and simply feels right.

The stunning photos are by the talented Carla Penoncelli.

Ciao Maria Lucia!

Sono finalmente arrivate le foto del matrimonio e volevo condividere qualcuna con te! Il vestito era semplicemente splendido – light, airy, comodissimo! Ho ricevuto tantissimi complimenti… era un sogno, davvero!

Un abbraccio,

Julia
